Chandigarh: Chandigarh police on Sunday night arrested three persons from the area behind ISBT, Sector 43, and recovered suspected explosive-making material and a firearm from their possession. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Explosives Act and Arms Act at Sector 36 police station, and further investigation is underway.According to preliminary investigations, the three suspects are allegedly linked to Satnam Satta alias Nau Shera, a Pakistan-based Khalistani terrorist. Police suspect the accused were planning a major terror-related strike in Punjab and Chandigarh on the instructions of their Pakistan-based handler.Two of the arrested suspects are residents of Tarn Taran, while the third is from Amritsar.Police sources said the accused were allegedly collecting explosive material and other components at the behest of their handler. The seized items include around 5 kg of gelatin sticks, detonators, a power source, wires, electronic components and other material suspected to be used for making explosive devices.Police also seized a pistol and five cartridges from the accused.The seizure is being examined as part of an investigation into a suspected IED plot and an alleged terror conspiracy. Investigating teams are working to establish the exact role of the accused, their links with the suspected handler, and the intended targets of the alleged attack.Police said there is no need for panic and that adequate security, surveillance and preventive measures are in place to ensure public safety.Residents have been advised to remain calm and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the police control room.
