121 new liquor brands may hit Telangana market soon

Hyderabad: Telangana Beverages Corporation Ltd has expedited the process of approving new liquor brands for sale in the state, with 121 brands from 18 new suppliers clearing preliminary scrutiny and moving to the objection stage.TGBCL managing director C Harikiran said on Sunday that details of the suppliers and brands had been placed on the corporation’s official website for public scrutiny. Objections, if any, have been invited before final approvals are issued. The corporation had earlier invited applications from new suppliers seeking to enter the Telangana liquor market. Officials examined the applications and supporting documents submitted by the suppliers as part of the preliminary scrutiny.Following the scrutiny, applications relating to 18 liquor suppliers were found eligible and their details were approved for the next stage, Harikiran said. To ensure transparency in the approval process, TGBCL has invited objections from members of the public, existing liquor businesses and other organisations. Those wishing to raise objections can submit their objections in writing, Harikiran said. The objections have to reach the corporation’s office by 5pm on September 1. They can either be submitted in person at the office or sent by post. Objections received after the deadline will not be considered. The objection process will then be followed by scrutiny of the complaints and a final decision on the eligibility of the suppliers and brands. If approved, the new brands are expected to be made available through liquor shops across Telangana. The move comes as the state excise department and TGBCL continue the process of bringing new suppliers into the state’s liquor distribution system. The final approvals will determine when and how many of the 121 brands enter the market.
