CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: In a major twist in the Maharashtra hill tragedy, police said an 18-year-old youth who allegedly jumped from a cliff after a quarrel with his father over an iPhone had attempted suicide from the same location in 2025, according to police.As the probe intensified, police are examining whether the quarrel over the iPhone was the only trigger behind the teenager’s extreme step, or if other factors may have contributed.The incident took place at Khavda Hill in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Friday morning.Kunal Chandwade, his father Murlidhar and mother Sangeeta died within moments of each other at Khavda Hill in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Friday.The teen had reached the hill around 10am and remained near the edge of the 400-500ft cliff for nearly three hours, despite repeated attempts by his parents, villagers, police and fire brigade personnel to persuade him to move to safety.His mother continued speaking to him and pleading with him to step back, while rescuers deployed safety nets below the cliff. But the teenager kept shifting his position, making the rescue operation difficult.
