Idukki: Two students have been arrested and remanded in connection with the assault on a student in Thodupuzha that left him with severe injuries to his genitals and required the surgical removal of his right testicle. The arrested students have been identified as Akshay Saju, 18, of Kallumari in Piravom, Ernakulam; and Gautham Krishna , 18, of Nechikkattukuzhi in Ambalavayal. They have been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days and sent to the Borstal School in Kakkanad. Both of them are classmates of the victim.Another accused in the case, a minor, has been sent to a juvenile home at Thiruvanchur in Kottayam. He was taken into custody and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which had released him in the custody of his parents. When he was produced before the board again on Friday, he was ordered to be sent to the juvenile home, police said.The victim, a native of Anakkara and a student at a private institution in Thodupuzha, was allegedly attacked by the three accused on Aug 10. He suffered serious injuries to his right testicle and subsequently underwent surgery to have it removed.Police said the minor accused also sent an Instagram message to the injured student after the incident. The message was allegedly provocative and appeared to mock the victim, prompting investigators to examine it. Police had initially not registered a case against Akshay and Gautham, although their names were mentioned in the victim’s complaint. Allegations that the investigation was not being conducted properly led to protests, including a march by the SFI to the institute.Police said Akshay and Gautham initially told investigators that they had witnessed the minor accused assaulting the victim. Further probe revealed their alleged involvement in the assault, following which they were arrested. The two were summoned for questioning on Thursday night. They were arrested after their involvement in the assault was established, Thodupuzha DSP Saji Markose said.
