Bhopal: The monsoon continued to drench the districts on Thursday, while going relatively slow in the state capital, Bhopal. According to the Met office, there was no immediate hope of any respite from the showers in the state, as more rainfall was likely at several places across Madhya Pradesh in the next few days. The city, however, presented a contrasting picture on Thursday, with the rains keeping conspicuously away even as the skies remained overcast. The regional meteorological office said a well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas of southeast Uttar Pradesh and northwest Chhattisgarh was currently centred over the state’s north-east and its neighbourhood, while an associated cyclonic circulation lay up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwards. The monsoon trough at mean sea level moved through Amritsar, Najibabad, Fatehgarh, Hardoi and the centre of the well-marked low-pressure area over northeast MP and neighbourhood, before extending southeastward through Digha to the northeast Bay of Bengal, the Met said, adding that the prevailing weather systems were likely to bring more wet weather to the state. The Met, meanwhile, forecast generally cloudy skies for the city on Friday, with the possibility of a thunderstorm, accompanied by lightning and rainfall later in the evening.
