Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming movie ‘Khalifa’ has crossed a key milestone ahead of its theatrical release. The Vysakh directorial has received a UA 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).The certification clears the way for the movie to arrive in cinemas as scheduled. ‘Khalifa’ is set to release on August 20, making it one of the major Malayalam movies targeting the 2026 Onam season.

The makers of ‘Khalifa’ have completed the censor formalities before the movie’s theatrical launch. The UA 16+ certification comes just days before its scheduled release. The certification is an important step for the team. It allows the movie to proceed with its planned theatrical rollout.Directed by Vysakh, ‘Khalifa’ marks his reunion with Prithviraj Sukumaran after their previous collaboration ‘Pokkiri Raja’. The 2010 movie was Vysakh’s directorial debut. The upcoming project is written by Jinu V Abraham. It has been presented as an action drama with a story involving family, business and power. Earlier the makers had shared the teaser for the film which received good responses.

Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Aamir Ali, the central character in ‘Khalifa: Part 1’. His character is connected to a powerful gold-trading business with operations across several regions.The cast includes Malvika Sharma in the female lead. Neil Nitin Mukesh is also part of the movie in a pivotal role. The ensemble further features Indrans, Shivajith, Shine Varghese, Shammi Thilakan, Kyraa, Mohini and Master Nafash. Mohanlal is another major name associated with the project. He appears as Mambarakkal Ahammadali, Aamir Ali’s grandfather.

Vysakh reunites with Prithviraj Sukumaran
The collaboration between Vysakh and Prithviraj Sukumaran is one of the major talking points surrounding ‘Khalifa’. The two filmmakers last worked together on ‘Pokkiri Raja’ more than a decade ago. The technical team includes composer Jakes Bejoy, cinematographer Jomon T John and editor Chaman Chakko. Yannick Ben has worked as the stunt director.‘Khalifa’ is scheduled to reach theatres on August 20, ahead of the Onam festivities. Girish AD’s ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ is another major Onam release. The movie stars Nivin Pauly, Mamitha Baiju and Sangeeth Prathap and is scheduled for August 21. Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘I’m Game’ was initially expected to join the Onam release lineup. However, its theatrical release was later postponed to September.
