Young Nagpur shuttlers shine in Amravati state badminton meet

Nagpur: Upcoming city shuttlers Raghav Niwarti, Ojas Landge and Rajnandini Sayam made their presence felt by winning a silver and two bronze medals in the Maharashtra State Sub-Junior selection badminton tournament at the district stadium in Amravati recently.In the U-11 boys’ singles final, Raghav went down fighting against Pune’s top seed Shaunak Kelkar 13-15, 18-16, 15-11 to clinch state silver. Earlier in the semifinal, fourth-seeded Raghav prevailed over Swaroop Mande from Ahilyanagar 15-5, 15-6. In an exciting quarterfinal, the Nagpur prodigy had to sweat hard to get the better of Thane’s Yohaan Nair 15-17, 15-5, 15-6.In the U-13 boys’ singles event, Nagpur’s Ojas Landge delivered a series of strong performances before losing the closely fought semifinal against Palghar’s top seed Rudra Manohar. In a thrilling three-game contest, Ojas lost 16-18, 16-14, 13-15. In an all-Nagpur semifinal, Ojas defeated Raghav 15-12, 15-12 to confirm a bronze medal.In the U-11 girls’ doubles, Nagpur’s Rajnandini Sayam paired up with Wardha’s Sanvi Barwat and won the bronze medal. After winning their quarterfinal 15-8, 15-11 against Mayra Dabak and Reva Patil, the Nagpur-Wardha duo lost the semifinal to the top-seeded pair of Keyara Sakhare and Krisha Goyal 2-15, 4-15.All the Nagpur district officials congratulated all the medal-winning shuttlers.
