Chandigarh: UK MP and chair of the UK Parliament’s Defence Committee Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi met Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann at the Punjab Legislative Assembly on Monday and raised concerns over extortion threats, NRI property disputes and international connectivity.Dhesi, who was invited to attend the ongoing Assembly session, sought coordinated action by India, the UK, Canada, Australia and the US against threats and extortion targeting businesspeople and sports promoters.He also sought time-bound resolution of land and property disputes involving NRIs in Punjab, saying this would provide greater certainty and protection to the Punjabi diaspora.Dhesi proposed developing Amritsar and Chandigarh as major aviation hubs for North India and expanding direct international connectivity from the two cities to London, Birmingham and other overseas destinations.The two also discussed measures to attract investment from the Punjabi diaspora and strengthen cargo and commercial services to facilitate trade. Dhesi said improved international connectivity and commercial infrastructure could help boost overseas investment in Punjab.Dhesi was accompanied by his uncle Parmjeet Singh Raipur, an SGPC member.
