JAISALMER: Three young men were killed and another seriously injured in a horrific road accident on National Highway-68 near Kurja Phanta in Barmer district’s Sadar police station area late on Saturday night.According to police, two motorcycles collided head-on, throwing all four riders onto the road. Moments later, a speeding tanker coming from behind ran over them, killing three youths and seriously injuring another.The tragedy has shattered three families. One of the deceased was the only son of his family and had been travelling towards Barmer with his cousin. Both cousins died in the accident. The third victim was a trader who was returning to his village after visiting Barmer to book stock for his fancy-goods shop.The deceased have been identified as Ruparam (25), son of Mohanlal Bishnoi, and Ramesh (30), son of Virmaram Bishnoi, both residents of Bhalisar, and Dhanraj (30), son of Udaram Jat, a resident of Arniyali under Dhorimanna police station in Balotra district.The injured youth has been identified as Mangilal (28), son of Kharta Ram Jat, also a resident of Arniyali.Following the accident, chaos broke out at the spot. Local residents informed the police and rushed all four injured youths to the Government District Hospital in Barmer. Doctors declared three of them dead, while Mangilal was admitted in serious condition and treatment was started.The bodies of the three deceased have been kept in the hospital mortuary. All three were residents of Balotra district.ASP Nitesh Arya said the accident occurred near Kurja Phanta late on Saturday night. Four youths were travelling on two motorcycles when the bikes collided head-on.All four fell onto the road after the collision and were subsequently hit by a tanker approaching from behind. Three youths died either at the spot or during treatment, while one remains seriously injured.After receiving information about the accident, ASI Gulab Khan reached the spot with a police team. Police seized both damaged motorcycles and the tanker and took them to the police station. The tanker driver was also detained at the spot. Police have started investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.According to their neighbour Hanuman Ram, Ramesh, a resident of Bhalisar, worked as a conductor on a private bus operating on the Haridwar route. He had left the village on a motorcycle with his cousin Ruparam.Ruparam was taking Ramesh towards Barmer when the accident occurred, resulting in the deaths of both cousins.Ramesh was the only son of his parents. He had married five years ago and had a young child. The accident has now left the child without his father.Ruparam worked on a JCB and was unmarried. He had two brothers.
Trader Dhanraj was returning after booking shop supplies
Dhanraj, a resident of Arniyali, was travelling on the second motorcycle with his friend Mangilal. Dhanraj owned a fancy-goods shop in his village.On Saturday evening, he had travelled to Barmer to book new stock for his shop. He was returning to the village with Mangilal when they reached near Kurja Phanta and collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.Dhanraj had married five years ago. His wife is five months pregnant and had been staying with her brother in Jodhpur while preparing for the REET examination. The tragedy has left the family devastated as they were preparing to welcome a new member.
Police investigation underway
ASI Gulab Khan of Sadar police station said police have taken possession of both motorcycles and the tanker. The tanker driver has been detained and further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.The deaths of the three young men have triggered grief in Bhalisar and Arniyali villages of Balotra district. The horrific accident has left three families mourning and turned what began as an ordinary journey into an unimaginable tragedy.
