R Madhavan has once again stepped into the world of biographical cinema with ‘G.D.N.’, which released today. The Krishnakumar Ramakumar directorial, featuring Madhavan alongside Vinay Rai and Dushara Vijayan, explores the extraordinary life and achievements of Coimbatore-born inventor Gopalaswamy Duraiswamy Naidu, popularly known as GD Naidu. When Madhavan turned director with ‘Rocketry’
Before taking on the role of GD Naidu, Madhavan portrayed scientist Nambi Narayanan in ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’. Released on July 1, 2022, the film marked Madhavan’s first venture into direction and revolved around the life of former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was falsely accused of espionage in 1994.The film received attention for its portrayal of Narayanan’s professional journey, personal struggles and the hardships he endured following the allegations. Rajinikanth had special words for Madhavan
Following the release of ‘Rocketry’, superstar Rajinikanth publicly praised Madhavan for taking on the challenging subject. The veteran actor expressed his belief that the film deserved to be watched by young audiences and applauded Madhavan’s work as a first-time director.“The film ‘Rocketry’ is a must-watch movie, especially for young people. In his directorial debut, Madhavan has proven that he is equal to ace directors. He has shown Padma Bhushan awardee Nambi Narayanan’s sacrifices and sufferings in the most realistic manner. I thank and appreciate him for making such a movie,” Rajinikanth shared in a note written in Tamil on Twitter.His appreciation carried particular significance as it came from an actor of his stature, who recognised Madhavan’s attempt to bring an inspiring real-life story to the screen.

Madhavan later responded to Rajinikanth’s words through a video shared on social media. The actor-director credited the film’s success to Nambi Narayanan and the entire team behind the project.“I don’t know what to say and (the credit goes to) Nambi Narayanan sir and the full team,” Madhavan said in Tamil.He then expressed his gratitude directly to the superstar, adding, “I really don’t know what to say. Thank you Rajini sir. It’s people like you that make it so worth it. Much love and respect to you.”
