Shimla: Shimla Police on Tuesday arrested an alleged inter-state drug smuggler and seized 1.1 kg of high-grade heroin (chitta).Acting on a tip-off, the district police’s special cell laid a trap near the Shoghi border area on Monday and arrested Vijay Kumar (22), a resident of Narayangarh in Haryana. Police said he was allegedly transporting the heroin consignment from Haryana for supply in Shimla.The accused was intercepted before the consignment could be delivered and the heroin was recovered from his possession. Police said further investigation was underway to identify other members of the interstate drug network.According to police, the seizure is part of a revised anti-narcotics strategy focused on major recoveries, arresting key suppliers, tracing backward linkages and dismantling interstate drug syndicates.Officials said Shimla Police have recovered more than 4 kg of heroin so far this year, besides significant quantities of opium, charas, poppy husk, LSD, methamphetamine and illegal cannabis plants. The recent crackdown has also led to the arrest of major suppliers and the seizure of assets allegedly linked to drug trafficking.
