Kurukshetra: A couple was killed after the roof of their house collapsed in Barondi village of Ladwa subdivision in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district early Tuesday, police said.The deceased were identified as Karnail Singh and his wife Jaswinder Kaur. According to villagers, the two were inside their house when the roof suddenly caved in, trapping them under the debris.Villagers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After cutting through the collapsed roof, they pulled the couple out and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.Police reached the spot, carried out a preliminary inspection and began an investigation into the cause of the collapse.Initial findings suggest the roof may have collapsed due to structural weakness, possibly aggravated by recent rain, though the exact cause will be ascertained after the investigation, police said.The incident cast a pall of gloom over the village, with a large number of residents gathering at the site. Local resident Goldy said the tragedy had left the entire village in mourning.
