Palghar: Two youths were seriously injured after a car allegedly used by bootleggers rammed into them on the Kasa-Charoti road in Dahanu on Monday night. One of the suspects was arrested after the vehicle crashed into a pothole while its occupants were trying to flee, police said.According to Kasa police, the incident took place around 8 pm when two alleged bootleggers were transporting illicit liquor through Kasa. Their car allegedly ploughed into a group of youths standing by the roadside and also hit a two-wheeler. The driver fled the scene, but the vehicle crashed near Dipu Garage after hitting a pothole. While the driver, identified as Bilal, escaped, locals caught the co-passenger, Akshay Shirsat, and handed him over to the police.The injured youths were identified as Sandesh Kavale (24) and Mayur Kambera (22), both of whom sustained serious injuries.Police have registered a case under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police inspector Amar Patil said investigators are also trying to trace the source of the illicit liquor being transported by the bootleggers.
