Nearly 60,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta between Thursday and Saturday, a number equivalent to about 70% of the North African city’s population. It marks the largest migrant influx into Spain in recent history.
The sudden surge overwhelmed local authorities, triggering chaos and a humanitarian emergency. Yet, Spanish officials said more than 48,000 migrants have already returned to Morocco voluntarily.
