Legendary South Indian playback singer K. Jamuna Rani passed away due to age-related ailments at the age of 88 on July 30. The veteran’s final rites were performed in the attendance of her family members, friends and well-wishers, who gathered to pay their last respects to the beloved singer.According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the veteran’s final rites were performed at the Jeevanhalli crematorium near Cock Stone in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on Friday afternoon. Her funeral was held on Friday, July 31, 2026, as people remembered her contribution to Indian cinema and music.Jamuna Rani was a legendary figure in South Indian music, having recorded over 6000 songs in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema over her decades long career.
Jamuna Rani’s musical journey that began at seven
Born in May 1938 in Andhra Pradesh, Jamuna Rani developed a love for music at a very young age. Her father, Varadarajulu Naidu, worked as a private employee, while her mother, Draupadi, was a veena player. Growing up in a musical family inspired her to pursue singing from childhood.She entered the film industry at age seven by singing for child actors in Thyagayya, directed by legendary actor and filmmaker Chittoor V. Nagayya. By the time she was 13, she had already started singing for lead actresses and quickly became one of the most sought-after playback singers of her time.
