Actor Shine Tom Chacko shared an unusual reason for not watching his own film ‘Dies Irae,’ directed by Rahul Sadasivan and headlined by Pranav Mohanlal.Despite being part of the 2025 release, the actor intentionally stayed away from watching the film because horror movies have a strong psychological effect on him.Speaking in an interview with Movie World Media, Shine revealed that while he enjoys acting in horror films, watching them is an entirely different experience.
Why Shine Tom Chacko stopped watching horror films
During the conversation, Shine explained that he had stopped watching ghost films years ago because they disturbed him long after the credits rolled.He said, “I stopped watching ghost movies. The only ghost films I watched were when I was young. After Manichitrathazhu, the only one I watched was ‘Aakashaganga’. Watching horror films affects me. But I have no problem acting in them.”The actor made it clear that performing in a horror film does not bother him, but sitting down to watch one is something he prefers to avoid.

Shine also explained why he has never watched Dies Irae, even though he was involved in the project.He said, “I still haven’t watched Dies Irae. Because if I watch it, I’ll have to experience it all by myself.”The actor further revealed that his contribution to the film was different from a conventional acting role.“For Dies Irae, they took my photographs. Then they made a mold using my body. I never went to the film’s location. I didn’t shoot anything at all, apart from the photographs and the body mold.”
He told Rahul Sadasivan he wouldn’t watch the film
Even after the film received positive responses from audiences, Shine said he informed director Rahul Sadasivan that he had no intention of watching it.He recalled, “When I heard the film was receiving great reviews, I told Rahul that I wouldn’t be coming to watch it. I had already stopped watching ghost films.”According to the actor, his decision had nothing to do with the film itself but everything to do with how horror stories affect him personally.Although Shine admitted that horror films fascinate him, he said they also leave him deeply unsettled, especially when he is alone.He explained, “I’m very interested in watching them. Earlier, after watching films like Evil Dead, I used to experience those feelings. Because when I’m alone, I have to go through it all by myself. I imagine the ghost appearing, I get scared, and I keep running—all alone.”He concluded by saying, “I can’t even call someone else to watch it with me. No one would believe me. People might think, ‘At this age, do you still believe in ghosts?’ or ask if I’m afraid of the dark.
