BHOPAL: Farmers protesting in Bhopal over 100% government procurement of moong, the e-token system and other demands continued their agitation for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, with a large number of protesters remaining camped near AMPRI on Hoshangabad Road.Amid the protesters’ announcement to march towards the chief minister’s residence, police maintained heavy deployment around the protest site and erected multiple barricades on approach roads to prevent the farmers from advancing.The security arrangements and road closures continued to disrupt traffic on Hoshangabad Road and adjoining areas, causing inconvenience to commuters and residents.In view of the ongoing protest, Bhopal collector Priyank Mishra ordered the closure of all government and private schools located along Hoshangabad Road for the day.Despite the protest, farmers continued with their daily routine at the demonstration site. Some rested after staying awake through the night, while others prepared dal-baati for lunch at the venue.In a symbolic gesture, the farmers performed a havan for the “good sense” of the government, alleging that while inflation continues to rise, they are still not receiving remunerative prices for their produce. Several farmers also spoke about the financial distress they are facing.Heavy police deployment remained in place near the Veer Savarkar Setu close to AMPRI, keeping a close watch on the situation in view of the proposed march towards the CM House.Traffic diversions imposed on Tuesday night remained in effect, with congestion continuing on Hoshangabad Road, near AIIMS, Katara Hills and other colonies along the Hoshangabad highway.
