Mysuru: Amid complaints that rich devotees are receiving special treatment during the ongoing Ashadha Fridays atop Chamundi Hills, urban development minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah Monday defended crowd management at the Chamundeshwari Temple. He said delays were caused by an exceptionally heavy weekend rush of devotees and extended VIP visits, which slowed queue movement, including for special-entry ticket holders. He added that authorities were taking measures to improve crowd management and minimise waiting time.“Everything was normal during the first Ashadha Friday. Due to the increase in vehicles and minor alterations in the rules, there were minor issues during the second Ashadha. We will ensure that such issues will not repeat in the coming weeks,” he said. The remarks come amid complaints that devotees paying Rs 2,000 for VIP darshan receive preferential treatment, while others wait for hours for darshan.Devotees said VIP darshan was increasing waiting time. They alleged that the special treatment for rich devotees should be stopped.
