Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Sunday demanded the resignation of chief minister A Revanth Reddy, alleging that the Congress govt had failed to safeguard the interests of students by not clearing fee reimbursement dues.In a statement, Rao claimed that fee reimbursement arrears had mounted to nearly Rs 12,000 crore, leaving around 20 lakh students, especially those from SC, ST, BC and EBC communities, in distress. He alleged that several educational institutions were withholding students’ certificates due to non-payment of fees, affecting their chances of pursuing higher education and securing employment. The BJP leader also accused the state govt of failing to release Rs 1,000 crore allegedly due to Osmania University. He said the delay was weakening one of Telangana’s premier universities and adversely impacting the academic prospects of thousands of students. He further alleged that the Congress govt had failed to fulfil its promise of providing a monthly unemployment allowance of Rs 4,000 to eligible youth. He also said the govt had not released a job calendar despite assurances made before the assembly elections.Holding the chief minister morally responsible for what he termed the “betrayal” of students and unemployed youth, Rao demanded that Revanth Reddy step down for failing to honour the Congress’ poll promises.
