Kanpur: Patchy sunshine on Wednesday pushed the mercury up by 2.4 degreesCelsius, bringing back humid and sultry weather conditions in Kanpur evenas intermittent spells of rain continued during the day.According to the Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture andTechnology (CSA) weather observatory, the city recorded a maximumtemperature of 32.4°C, while the minimum settled at 25°C. The brief sunnyspells, coupled with high moisture levels, made conditions uncomfortablefor residents despite intermittent showers.The observatory recorded 86 per cent maximum relative humidity, whichcontributed to the prevailing humid conditions. However, north-easterlywinds blowing at speeds ranging between 5.8 kmph and 11.3 kmph providedpartial relief from the mugginess.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that light tomoderate rain, thundershowers and heavy rainfall at isolated places arelikely across the Kanpur division over the next few days. The maximumtemperature is expected to remain between 33°C and 37°C, while the minimumtemperature is likely to hover between 26°C and 28°C, preventing anysignificant rise in day temperatures.Weather experts said dense cloud cover is expected to persist over Kanpurduring the remaining days of the week. Increased humidity, accompanied bystrong winds and thunderstorms, is likely to trigger widespread rainfall,resulting in a further drop in temperature.Senior agrometeorologist Dr SN Sunil Pandey said that increasedatmospheric moisture and the formation of fresh weather systems areenhancing the inflow of moisture over the region. As a result, the Kanpurdivision is likely to witness cloudy skies from July 23 to July 26.He said isolated areas may experience strong surface winds, scattered lightdrizzle, light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning, whilegusty winds are also expected during the period. Intermittent sunshine maycontinue between rain spells, but overall weather conditions are likely toremain favourable for rainfall.The forecast indicates that residents should remain prepared for changingweather conditions, including sudden showers, thunderstorms and strongwinds, over the next few days.
