LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Monday directed police officers across the state to ensure a “Zero Incident, Zero Accident” Kanwar Yatra this year, stressing seamless inter-state coordination, robust security measures and courteous policing to facilitate the safe movement of millions of pilgrims.Addressing an inter-state coordination meeting ahead of the annual pilgrimage, the DGP said the objective was to build on the significant improvements witnessed during last year’s Kanwar Yatra through coordinated efforts by all participating states and districts.He instructed officers to ensure the swift dissemination of accurate and verified information through the media and social media, while directing police units to promptly identify, counter and take legal action against fake news, misinformation and rumours that could disrupt communal harmony or the pilgrimage.Emphasising the importance of the initial phase of the Yatra, the DGP said the conduct of police personnel during the opening days would determine the overall atmosphere of the event. He directed officers to maintain strict discipline, adhere to established operational protocols and interact with devotees in a sensitive, restrained and respectful manner.He further instructed that every police personnel deployed on Kanwar duty should receive behavioural training and detailed operational briefings covering their area of deployment, local challenges, emergency response protocols and assigned responsibilities.The DGP also underlined the need for continuous coordination among states, saying that while administrative boundaries may differ, operational procedures, coordination and real-time intelligence sharing must remain uniform and uninterrupted throughout the pilgrimage.Following the coordination meeting, Rajeev Krishna inspected the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at the Meerut Police Lines and inaugurated the newly established Social Media Monitoring Cell, Cyber Monitoring Cell and Crime Branch building at the Meerut Zone office.Security review in MuzaffarnagarAfter concluding his visit to Meerut, the DGP travelled to Muzaffarnagar, where he conducted an on-ground inspection of security arrangements and public facilities for Kanwar pilgrims at Shiv Chowk, one of the busiest transit points on the pilgrimage route.During the inspection, he reviewed barricading arrangements, traffic diversion plans, the Kanwar Control Room, CCTV and drone surveillance systems, deployment of police personnel, crowd management measures and overall traffic regulation.Later, at the auditorium of the Reserve Police Lines in Muzaffarnagar, the DGP chaired a review meeting on Kanwar Yatra preparations for the Saharanpur Range, covering Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Shamli districts.Senior officers from Muzaffarnagar attended the meeting in person, while officers from Saharanpur and Shamli joined through video conferencing. Superintendents of Police from the three districts made detailed presentations on their security and traffic management plans, after which the DGP interacted with Circle Officers to obtain direct feedback on preparedness.Addressing the officers, Rajeev Krishna directed that pre-defined response plans be prepared for every possible contingency during the pilgrimage. He laid particular emphasis on counter-terror preparedness, instructing that the roles and response mechanisms of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and other specialised police units be clearly defined for handling terrorist threats and other extraordinary situations.He further directed that all officers and personnel be thoroughly trained and briefed to respond effectively to different emergency scenarios. Specialised police units, he said, should receive dedicated training tailored to their operational responsibilities so they can deliver swift, coordinated and effective responses whenever required.The DGP also instructed officials to ensure proper arrangements for accommodation, food, communication facilities and logistics for police personnel deployed from other districts and states. He further directed that holding areas equipped with essential civic amenities be developed along state borders to facilitate the smooth movement and convenience of Kanwar pilgrims entering Uttar Pradesh.Concluding his visit, Rajeev Krishna participated in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign by planting a sapling at the Reserve Police Lines campus in Muzaffarnagar.
