No stretcher, no ambulance, girl, 17, dies on bro’s shoulder at UP govt hosp

Bareilly: A 17-year-old girl died on the steps at the Government Medical College in Budaun after brother spent nearly an hour trying in vain to get her a stretcher and an ambulance to shift her to another hospital, family members alleged. The incident, which occurred around 1pm on Friday, came to light on Saturday after a video of the brother carrying his sister on his shoulder surfaced on social media.Tarannum, a resident of Khairi village, fell suddenly ill on Friday. Her brother, Farman, brought her to the medical college around noon. Doctors examined her and, finding her condition critical, referred her to another facility.Farman alleged that hospital staff failed to provide a stretcher, forcing him to carry his sister on his shoulder across the premises to find help. By the time he reached the hospital gate, Tarannum had died. The family further claimed they were denied an ambulance to transport her body, forcing them to take her home in an autorickshaw. The medical college administration has issued a statement countering the allegations, claiming Tarannum was registered in the psychiatry department at 12:30 pm. According to the hospital, she was suffering from tuberculosis and had previously left AMU Hospital in Aligarh against medical advice. The administration stated that doctors advised transferring her to the medicine department, but the family declined and left the premises on their own.Efforts to contact the hospital principal for comments were unsuccessful.
