NAVI MUMBAI: A 42-year-old man with a mental health condition climbed the three-storey Vithu Mauli residential building near Ballaleshwar Temple in Pali town, Raigad, and sat on the exterior window ledge of a third-floor flat. The incident occurred at around 11.15 pm on July 8.A video of the incident went viral on social media on Friday after several X users shared it, wrongly claiming, without verification, that the man was a suspected thief who had climbed the building to commit theft. After residents alerted the Pali police, officers reached the spot with a rope. They climbed to the building’s terrace, lowered the rope to the man and asked him to tie it around his waist. Once he did so, the police pulled him up to the terrace and rescued him safely.Uttam Rikame, senior inspector of Pali Police Station, said, “The rescued man was taken to the Primary Health Centre for a medical examination, where he told he is a resident of Khairwadi village in Pali, Sudhagad taluka.”“During further inquiry, it was learnt that he has a mental health condition and, whenever he experiences a panic attack due to anxiety, he hides somewhere. On the night of July 8, he repeated the same behaviour by climbing the building and sitting on the window ledge of a third-floor flat. His father also confirmed his mental health condition. He was later handed over to his father, and they will be summoned for further inquiry,” the officer added.
