Nancy Guthrie, mother of ‘Today’ show host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February. According to the latest updates about the ongoing investigation, many ransom notes have been shared with the authorities and various media channels; however, many are believed to be fake attempts to extort money.

Most of the notes recovered by authorities in relation to Nancy Guthrie’s case are still under investigation. PEOPLE reported from an official FBI statement that some notes “may potentially be legitimate and are still being investigated as such”, while there are more notes that have been deemed completely illegitimate. Another statement from the report read that some notes “have been deemed to be extortion attempts without legitimacy. Only a day ago, Reuters reported that the three main notes sent to the authorities and TMZ are being considered fake extortion notes. Two of the notes were shared with the publication, along with a couple of other local Tucson news channels. The first note asked for money, while the second note demanded a specific amount of USD 4 million for the release of her body and confirmed that the 84-year-old had allegedly passed away shortly after being taken from her home. The latest note, which was delivered only a few days ago via an anonymous email, stated that the person had proof in a “secure location.” According to the ransom note, they had a video that showed the “main guy” along with Nancy around the time that she was taken.As of right now, no other updates have been shared, and the case continues to be under investigation. Since then, Savannah has returned to the ‘Today’ show; however, she has also shared many public pleas for information related to her mother’s disappearance and opened up about how the family has been dealing with everything since the beginning of the year.
