RAIPUR: A Nagpur police team on Monday raided the Raipur office and residence of the CEO of private explosives manufacturer SBL Energy Ltd in an attempt to execute non-bailable warrants against him and his brother in connection with the March factory blast in Maharashtra that killed 24 workers. However, the two brothers remained untraceable during the operation.The Nagpur team, assisted by personnel from Devendra Nagar police station, searched the company’s office at Fafadih and other suspected locations in Raipur but failed to locate CEO Alok Sampat Singh Chaudhary and his brother Sanjay Sampat Singh Chaudhary, both wanted in the case.Speaking to TOI, Nagpur (Rural) SP Harsh Poddar said the supreme court had, in May, granted the brothers four weeks to surrender. “There is a non-bailable warrant against both accused. The supreme court had given them four weeks in May to surrender. Since they did not surrender, our team came to Raipur to arrest them. However, they were at large,” he said.The brothers are among the accused in the March 1 explosion at SBL Energy’s explosives and detonator manufacturing plant in Nagpur district, one of the country’s deadliest industrial accidents involving an explosives unit in recent years. The blast killed 24 workers and left several others injured.Investigators subsequently booked the company’s senior management on charges including causing death by criminal negligence and other offences. After the Bombay High Court’s Nagpur bench rejected their anticipatory bail pleas, a local court issued non-bailable warrants against the brothers. A lookout circular was also issued against them.The company has separately come under international scrutiny after the US treasury department recently imposed sanctions on SBL Energy and its CEO over allegations that the firm supplied explosives that supported military operations in Sudan. The sanctions pertain to a separate matter and are unrelated to the Nagpur factory blast investigation.Police said efforts were continuing to trace the two brothers.
