The police said one person died and six others were injured in the incident after petrol bombs were hurled at the residence of Murugan, an AIADMK functionary and businessman. Police have arrested one person in connection with the attack.Police initially registered a case suspecting an electrical short circuit. However, an inquiry ruled out an electrical fault, whereas witnesses told investigators they had heard explosions before the fire. A special investigation team later found Jalapathi, 35, of Venbakkam, was suspected of throwing petrol bombs at a motorcycle parked outside Murugan’s house before fleeing. He was arrested.
