Kelly Kislaya | TNNRanchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has made it compulsory for all Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) operating within its jurisdiction to register on the central Solid Waste Management (SWM) portal. The civic body’s directive comes in accordance with the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026.Under these guidelines, any establishment having a built-up area of 20,000 square metres or more, a daily water consumption of 40,000 litres or more, or generating 100 kilograms or more of solid waste daily is classified as a BWG. It is now mandatory for all such large-scale waste producers in the capital to log their details on the https://swm.cpcb.gov.in/ portal. Currently, there are over 500 identified BWGs in the city.Additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Kumar said, “Registration on the portal will facilitate the monitoring of waste management, source segregation, processing, and regulatory compliance regarding the waste generated by these bulk waste generators”. He directed that the establishments must now also segregate and collect their waste into four colour-coded dustbins. The RMC has also directed all BWGs to ensure the processing of wet and horticulture waste within their premises using scientific and approved methods. If an establishment is unable to process its own organic and garden waste, it will be mandatory for them to obtain an Extended Bulk Waste Generator Responsibility (EBWGR) certificate. The civic body has issued an urgent appeal to all housing complexes, commercial establishments, hospitals, educational institutions, and hotels to ensure immediate compliance. To support the transition, a special training programme will be organised at the RMC to assist representatives with filling out the registration forms. Officials warned that failure to adhere to these rules would invite strict legal action in accordance with statutory regulations.
