COIMBATORE: A 39-year-old man was severely injured and hospitalised after being stabbed with a knife by a tea stall worker in Vadavalli here on Sunday.The victim, G Sakthivel, 39, works at a coconut shop owned by Manikandan on the Maruthamalai Road. Sakthivel also sells jamun fruits on a pushcart. He was stabbed by A Sudalaimani, 34, who works at an adjacent tea stall.An altercation broke out between Sakthivel and Sudalaimani near the fruit pushcart on Sunday night, after which the latter briefly left the spot. However, he soon returned to the victim’s workplace. He began hurling filthy language at him and drew a knife concealed in his waist. Sudalaimani assaulted Sakthivel, causing severe bleeding injuries on his head and nose.As nearby people rushed to the spot, the assailant threatened the victim with dire consequences before fleeing the scene.The injured vendor was rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Following a complaint lodged by Sakthivel on Monday, the Vadavalli police registered a case and arrested Sudalaimani.
