Karaikal: A local court in Karaikal on Friday sentenced a 26-year-old woman to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping a 17-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her in 2019. The court also sentenced her male accomplice to four years in prison, while acquitting the driver of the vehicle used in the crime.According to the prosecution, a 17-year-old girl residing Karaikal mysteriously went missing in 2019, following which her family filed a missing person complaint. The Karaikal town police registered a case and launched an investigation.Police found that a 26-year-old woman, Kalaiamuthu, of Kottucherry, had abducted the minor girl in a car and taken her to Chennai and sexually assaulted her. Ganesan, of Karaikal, acted as an accomplice to the crime, while Suresh had driven the getaway car. Following these findings, police rescued the teen and arrested all three individuals under the Pocso Act.Finding the charges comprehensively proven, judge K Mohan sentenced Kalaiamuthu to 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹20,000, and Ganesan to four years of imprisonment with a fine of ₹10,000. Suresh, was acquitted as the court found no evidence of his involvement or prior knowledge of the criminal conspiracy.
