UP employee bodies seek meeting with 8th Pay Commission

Lucknow: Representatives of various state govt employees, teachers and power sector personnel organisations have expressed concern over the absence of any scheduled interaction with them during the 8th Pay Commission’s proposed two-day visit to Lucknow on Monday. On Sunday, All India Power Engineers Federation chairman Shailendra Dubey and leaders of several employee organisations said the commission is expected to hold discussions with representatives of the All India Services but has not allotted time for meetings with state govt employees and power sector personnel. The employee representatives said the commission’s recommendations would have a significant impact on a large number of state govt employees and power sector personnel in Uttar Pradesh, where pay revisions have generally followed the recommendations of the Central Pay Commissions. They maintained that inputs from state employees would help the commission gain a broader understanding of service conditions and related issues. The organisations also drew attention to the situation of contractual and outsourced workers, particularly in the power sector, and urged the commission to take note of their concerns. The employee bodies announced that they would submit a joint memorandum to the chairman of the 8th Pay Commission and seek an opportunity to present their views before the commission.
