Andhra Pradesh opens Canva to millions of government school students: Here's how it will help students
Government school students across Andhra Pradesh will soon have access to Canva’s educational tools under a statewide partnership signed by the state government. The initiative is designed to help students develop presentation, design and visual communication skills while encouraging creative learning. Teachers will also be able to use the platform to create more engaging and interactive classroom content.

Students in Andhra Pradesh’s government schools will soon be able to create presentations, videos, infographics and visual projects using Canva, after the state government signed an agreement with the global design platform to provide free access across the public education system. The agreement was signed on June 18 between the Education Department, Samagra Shiksha, and Canva. Teachers and Education Department officials will also receive access to the platform. With the move, Andhra Pradesh has become the first state in India to make Canva for Education available statewide to all government school students, according to an official release issued on Saturday.

From consuming content to creating it

For years, digital learning in schools has largely revolved around watching videos, attending online classes, or accessing study material. The Canva partnership seeks to add another dimension, content creation.Students will now be able to design presentations, prepare project reports, develop infographics, edit videos, and create visual learning material using tools that are widely used in educational institutions and workplaces around the world. The shift is significant because communication skills are increasingly being assessed not just through written assignments but also through presentations and visual storytelling.

Why the move matters

As higher education institutions and companies emphasize digital literacy, it becomes increasingly necessary for students to communicate their ideas effectively, collaborate, and be proficient in using technology.Availability of Canva allows government school students to gain these skills from an early age. It doesn’t matter if it’s a science project, class presentation or team task—students have the option of turning information into appealing visuals through the platform.Education experts have long argued that exposure to such tools can help students become more confident communicators and creative thinkers.

Teachers also stand to benefit

The partnership is not limited to students. Teachers will be able to use Canva to prepare lesson plans, classroom presentations, worksheets, posters, and other teaching resources.Instead of relying solely on traditional teaching methods, educators can use visual material to explain concepts and make lessons more interactive.Education Department officials will also have access to the platform for communication and administrative work.

A digital learning push

The agreement reflects a broader effort to bring technology-driven learning into government schools. While access to devices and internet connectivity remains a challenge in many parts of the country, education systems are increasingly looking at ways to equip students with practical digital skills alongside academic knowledge.By opening Canva’s tools to millions of students, Andhra Pradesh is betting that creativity, communication, and digital fluency will become as important as conventional classroom learning in the years ahead.
