Haveri: MP and former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai Saturday termed cross-voting in the legislative council elections “highly disturbing and regrettable” and alleged that Congress had engaged in large-scale political corruption by spending huge amounts of money.Speaking at a news conference in Haveri, Bommai said it was true some legislators had fallen prey to financial temptation. He said action would be taken once the report from the committee appointed by the party is received. The leader of the opposition and the state party president had already announced an inquiry, and the findings would be sent to the party high command. “The report would be obtained within a week, and action would be taken against those found responsible,” he added. He alleged that the Congress govt, under the leadership of chief minister DK Shivakumar, was functioning with the arrogance of money and repeated his charge that this amounted to political corruption involving the spending of vast sums. Some MLAs had been swayed by monetary inducements, he said, adding such a situation should not have arisen.Responding to a question on access issues at Haveri railway station, Bommai said there was an entry problem as part of the land belonged to private individuals. The matter was in court, and attempts were made two or three times to resolve it through discussions, but no solution has emerged so far. He said further efforts would be made in the coming days.On the Bedti-Varada project, he said the state govt is preparing the DPR and that they would resume their agitation once it is completed.
