Police open fire on alleged Janki Das killers during escape attempt, raising questions about use of force

CHANDIGARH: While transporting the two shooters arrested over the killing of Janki Das, the cashier of Shri Kumar Medical Hall in Sector-11, from Jammu to Chandigarh, the accused allegedly attempted to escape from police custody. As a result, the police took action and opened fire. Both shooters Aryan and Sunny Mehra, were hit in the leg and were admitted to GMSH-16 for treatment. The condition of both injured accused stated to be out of danger by the doctorsAs per the details, Chandigarh Police were bringing both accused in the murder case from Jammu to Chandigarh on transit remand on the night of Wednesday. As they reached the back side of the Punjab university , they reportedly tried to escape. The police initially attempted to stop them, but when they failed to comply, the police fired a shot in response.Aryan and Sunny Mehra sustained bullet injuries, and both are said to have been shot in the leg.It may be recalled that cashier Janki Das was shot dead in broad daylight at Shri Kumar Medical Hall in Sector-11. Following this high-profile incident, Chandigarh Police carried out raids across multiple states. When a Jammu-Kashmir link emerged during the investigation, police teams conducted an operation there and arrested Aryan, Sunny Mehra, and another accused.
