RSS seeks security after petrol bombs hurled at its Ranchi office
Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan and other officers arrive at the spot on Wednesday

Ranchi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday urged state police to enhance security on its office campus in Nivaranpur area of the city after two men allegedly hurled petrol bombs on the premises early on Wednesday. However, none were injured in the incident, and the bombs did not start off a blaze, police said. RSS registered an FIR with Chutia police station later in the day.Senior BJP functionaries in Jharkhand expressed concern over the attack and termed the incident an attempt to inflict damage and cause law and order issues statewide. A police probe has been initiated into the incident, and an NIA team reportedly reached the RSS office premises in the evening to investigate. However, no arrest was made till late evening. In his FIR, Narsingh Kumar, prant karyalay pramukh (regional office in-charge) of RSS Ranchi, said the attack took place around 12:36 am. A CCTV footage from the office, which has been shared on social media, showed two unidentified men walking up to the office, lighting a bottle and hurling it inside before fleeing the scene.“The attackers were seen throwing petrol bombs twice, raising concerns about a planned assault,” Kumar wrote in his complaint. The RSS functionary said 20 people reside in the office and sought a police picket in the vicinity, enhanced security on campus, and immediate arrest of the attackers.BJP and RSS functionaries gathered outside the office after the news broke in the morning. Union minister of state for defence Sanjay Seth and former CM Raghubar Das also arrived at the spot. “Prima facie, it looks like a conspiracy to create unrest in Ranchi, and in the state at large. We won’t let that happen,” Seth said.Das demanded immediate identification and arrest of the attackers. “State police seems to be napping, and crimes are going unabated everywhere in Jharkhand,” he said.Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan inspected the office premises as police deployed a forensic team to collect evidence. “We have started a probe and anything concrete can be said only after proper investigation. Some bottle parts were found littered on the premises, which are being examined by forensic team,” he said.
