How did the kid swallow pin?
According to an Instagram reel shared by a mother from her handle @reyaanshandmama the birthday cake of her son turned out to be the most shocking one. The mother said that her son was excited to see a bowling-themed birthday cake. However, she claimed that the bakery in Thane that prepared the cake had used metal wire to support the decorations without informing the family.
What did the mother say?
Sharing her experience on Instagram, she wrote, “This is the video I never thought I’d be making. 31st May — we celebrated Reyaansh’s birthday eve. It was everything I dreamed of: the decorations, the cake, the family, the love. 1st June — his actual 3rd birthday — we were at the hospital. A bakery in Thane used metal wire inside the cake decorations without informing us, despite knowing my child would eat the cake.”She further added in the video that her 2-year-old son had swallowed that wire and they spent his birthday not knowing what would happen next. She said, “This is our story. And after 48 hours- you won’t believe what came out of his body.”In a follow-up video, the mother claimed that an X-ray showed two metal pieces in her son’s intestine. She later shared that both pieces passed naturally without the need for surgery. Following the incident, she urged parents to ask bakers whether any wires, toothpicks or plastic supports had been used inside cake decorations. “Always ask if decoration pieces are fully edible and safe for children,” she advised.
What did the mother advise others
She also reminded parents not to assume that decorative elements on cakes are automatically safe for toddlers and young children.Soon, the video went viral and later the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued an advisory.

There exists a significant risk that such pins may inadvertently be consumed by consumers, resulting in injury and adverse health consequences.”Keeping the safety and health of consumers in view, the concluding paragraph of the advisory states, “In the interest of public health and food safety, all FBOs are hereby directed to immediately discontinue the use of metallic pins/wires or any other such material for sealing, fastening, securing, or packaging any food item, food parcel, takeaway meal, bakery product, cake box, sweet box, snack packet, or any other food item or package failing which appropriate penal action shall be taken as per provisions of FSS Act, 2006 and Regulations made thereunder.“
