Chennai: The Greater Chennai traffic police registered more than 2,900 traffic violation cases during a special enforcement drive conducted across the city from June 12 to June 14, as part of efforts to ensure safe and accident-free vehicular movement.A total of 120 vehicle checkpoints were established at strategic locations, while intensive surveillance was conducted at major road junctions to detect violations and improve compliance with traffic regulations.The enforcement drive focused on offences such as drunk driving, overspeeding, rash driving and riding without helmets. During the operation, police registered 434 cases of drunk driving, 130 cases involving overspeeding and rash driving, and 2,385 cases against riders who were not wearing helmets.Police said the special drive formed part of their continuing efforts to reduce road accidents and enhance public safety through preventive enforcement. Chennai City Traffic Police appealed to motorists and other road users to strictly follow traffic rules and cooperate with enforcement agencies to make the city’s roads safer for everyone.The operation, carried out on the directions of city commissioner of police A Amalraj, involved 350 traffic police personnel across the city.
