1st batch of foreign women cadets to graduate from IMA next June

Dehradun: Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, will see its first batch of foreign women officer cadets graduate in June next year, months after the academy’s first cohort of Indian women cadets joined Army this year. The foreign batch has women from four countries and is undergoing training at the academy. “The batch has two cadets each from Uganda and Seychelles, and one each from Bhutan and Eswatini. They will be commissioned into their respective armies after completing training in June next year – a historic moment for the academy that we are looking forward to,” an IMA officer told TOI.One of the foreign cadets told TOI that watching India’s first women cadets pass out on Saturday had strengthened their resolve to complete training and mark another milestone at IMA next year. “We are now more determined to give our best and make the academy as well as our countries proud. We hope that our batch will motivate more women to join Army and enrol at IMA for training with assistance from the govts,” another cadet said.Academy officials said the second batch of Indian women cadets would graduate in the passing-out parade scheduled for Dec. On Saturday, nine women cadets from the first batch graduated after completing training at IMA.
