Dimapur: NSCN (IM) on Thursday urged the Centre to immediately declare the Kuki militant groups and their frontal village volunteers as outlaws and terrorist organisations, following the recovery of six Naga bodies in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. In a statement, NSCN unequivocally condemned the “barbaric killing” and “grotesque mutilation” of the bodies by the Kuki groups, slamming the ‘heinous atrocities” which were “blatant crimes against humanity and a savage violation of human dignity”.Stating that such violation of human dignity had no place in civilised society, NSCN said it will leave no stone unturned until those responsible for the “savage act” are brought to justice.“Even in times of conflict, universal moral norms demand absolute respect for the deceased. The deliberate desecration of human bodies serves no purpose other than to spread terror, weaponise fear, and inflict deep psychological trauma on grieving families and communities,” NSCN said.It said the deliberate targeting of civilians, use of extreme violence to terrorise public and the desecration of the dead constitute clear acts of terrorism by any global standard.Stressing that groups committing such depraved acts must be stripped of all political legitimacy, the statement said failure to crush these organisations will only embolden them to commit further atrocities and destroy any chance for justice and peace.Further, the NSCN said it was imperative that the Centre acted swiftly and decisively to target these “gangs”.Criticizing security forces for “manhandling Naga womenfolk like ragdolls for exercising their democratic right to protest, assault Naga student activists, and forcibly disband Naga village guards,” the statement accused them of facilitating the brutal killing.NSCN asked how such actions can be reconciled with the principles of justice, equality and protection, which the Centre is constitutionally bound to uphold.
