The National Testing Agency (NTA) has added four new exam city options in the North-Eastern region for candidates appearing in the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) June 2026 examination.The decision was taken due to the limited availability of examination centres in the North-Eastern states. Candidates can now choose the newly added cities while making corrections in their application forms.NTA has already opened the UGC NET June 2026 application correction window, and candidates can make changes in their forms till May 28, 2026.The UGC NET June 2026 examination will be conducted from June 22 to June 30 across the country in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

UGC NET 2026: Newly added exam cities

The newly added exam cities are:Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh (AL03)Kakching, Manipur (MN04)Bishnupur, Manipur (MN05)Cherrapunji, Meghalaya (MG02)According to NTA, candidates from Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim can also choose exam cities available in neighbouring North-Eastern states through the correction facility.

What changes can candidates make?

Candidates are allowed to edit the following details in their UGC NET 2026 application form:

  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Category
  • Sub-category
  • Examination city centre

However, changes in mobile number, email address, photograph and signature will not be allowed.

Two new subjects added this year

This year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has added two new subjects, Forestry and Statistics, to the UGC NET subject list.The examination will now be conducted for 87 subjects.UGC NET is conducted twice every year, usually in June and December, to determine the eligibility of candidates for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programmes in Indian universities and colleges.The national-level examination is conducted by NTA on behalf of UGC.
