Gorakhpur: A dispute over an unfulfilled request for a chicken leg piece by a ‘baraati’ turned a Gorakhpur wedding venue into a battleground late Friday. The argument quickly escalated into a clash involving stones, belts, bamboo sticks, and swords, leaving one youth dead and another critically injured.The incident took place under the Shahpur police station limits during the wedding ceremony of a municipal employee’s daughter. Police and eyewitnesses said tension began with a dispute over DJ songs and intensified during dinner when a guest allegedly objected to not receiving a chicken leg piece.Soon, the venue turned into a battlefield as both sides allegedly started pelting stones and attacking each other with belts, bamboo sticks and swords, with guests running for cover.During the clash, Sumit (25) from the groom’s side suffered serious injuries and later died during treatment at a hospital. Another youth, identified as Nepali, remains critical.Family members said Sumit had gotten married only three months ago and worked at a mobile phone shop to support his family.Despite the deadly clash, elders in the family decided to solemnise the wedding.Police have registered a case on a complaint filed by the victim’s family and arrested seven people based on CCTV footage. The body has been sent for postmortem examination, and no deep injury marks were found on it, SP City Nimish Patil said.
