Father pours diesel on 2 daughters, tries to set them ablaze over family dispute in Maharashtra

BEED: A man allegedly poured diesel on his two minor daughters and tried to set them on fire following a family dispute in Maharashtra’s Beed district, police said on Tuesday. A case has been registered against the accused, identified as Mahesh Vishnu Somase, in connection with the incident that took place on May 2 in Lahamewadi village of Majalgaon tehsil, an official said, according to news agency PTI. According to police, Somase’s wife, Ashwini, had been staying at her maternal home in Lahamewadi after a domestic dispute. On Saturday evening, Somase reached the house along with their daughters, aged four and five. Police said he asked his wife to return home immediately, but she refused and suggested that community elders be involved to resolve the matter. Enraged by her refusal, Somase allegedly threatened to kill her and her family members. He then allegedly took out a can of diesel from a bag kept on his motorcycle, poured the fuel on his daughters, and pulled out a matchbox from his pocket in an attempt to set them ablaze, the official said. A relative present at the spot managed to snatch the matchbox from the accused, preventing any harm to the children, police said.
