Footage from inside The Deli café shows the attacker approaching a seated customer before appearing to stab him in the chest. The diner immediately reacted, lunging at the attacker and repeatedly punching him in an attempt to restrain him.The struggle moved towards the counter, where a staff member intervened and managed to disarm the attacker. During the altercation, parts of the café interior were damaged as the confrontation escalated.
Staff and public intervene to contain the situation
A café employee was seen assisting in controlling the attacker, while another member of staff moved the injured customer away from danger. The Deli café later confirmed that both staff and customers were safe following the incident.In a statement shared on social media and reported by The Sun, The Deli café thanked the customer who intervened, saying he “kept them safe” during the attack and would be offered free meals for life.The café also temporarily closed following the incident due to the disruption.
Police response and arrest
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers attended the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Two men were treated for stab-related injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening.A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody as enquiries continue.The Sun quoted Detective Chief Inspector Mike Sharples as saying police are conducting “extensive enquiries” and reassured the public that there is “no wider threat,” describing the incident as isolated.
