COIMBATORE: Both AIADMK and DMK have mismanaged basic needs of the people of Tamil Nadu in the last 60 years, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman on Wednesday. He said electricity charges, property taxes and registration fees had all increased sharply. “If DMK or AIADMK comes back to power, as actor Rajinikanth said, ‘Even if God himself comes, Tamil Nadu cannot be saved now,’” he said while campaigning for NTK candidates in Coimbatore.Seeman said there was no safe drinking water. “Fruits like tomatoes, mangoes and grapes are contaminated. We are forced to breathe air thick with industrial dust. Chief minister M K Stalin has run the govt in the last five years, and the state accumulated a debt of Rs 4.25 lakh crore,” he said. Running a govt after intoxicating everyone was shameful, he said, pointing to the govt’s dependence on liquor sales.Seeman said DMK’s election manifesto made no mention of reclaiming the Katchatheevu. He slammed freebies and vote-buying schemes, saying, “Giving Rs 8,000 coupons to householders to buy essentials or announcing freebies is meant to deceive people. Do you believe growth comes from such tactics?”“In Erode East, a case was filed against me for speaking five minutes longer during a campaign. Yet in Karur, 41 people lost their lives at a rally organised by a new party — has a proper case been registered for that even today?” he said.“For the past 15 years, I have stood in the field for the people, without seeking money or political positions,” he added.
