BHOPAL: IPS officer Anurag Sujania, who was recently removed as Sagar superintendent of police (SP), has submitted his resignation to the Madhya Pradesh government, citing ‘personal reasons’.Sujania submitted his resignation on Monday, November 2, just four days after the state government transferred him from Sagar to the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Bhopal as assistant inspector general (AIG).The transfer order was issued on October 27 as part of a reshuffle involving the collectors and SPs of Sagar and Dewas districts.Sujania could not be contacted for his comments. However, sources in the police establishment said the sudden transfer had not gone down well with the officer. He was overseeing the investigation into the Sagar hooch tragedy when the transfer order was issued. Insiders said the timing of the transfer had caused considerable discontent, although Sujania cited personal reasons in his resignation. The transfer came in the aftermath of the Banda hooch tragedy in Sagar district, in which at least 16 deaths were officially confirmed following the consumption of illegally manufactured poisonous liquor.Unofficial estimates put the death toll considerably higher, at around 36. The incident exposed an alleged network involved in the manufacture and distribution of illicit liquor, prompting a major police investigation and raising questions about law enforcement and administrative oversight.Following the incident, the state government transferred both the district collector and the SP. Sujania was replaced by Sanjeev Kumar Sinha.A 2014-batch IPS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Sujania is originally from Rajasthan. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ IPS Civil List, he holds an MTech degree. He joined the IPS on December 2, 2014, and was confirmed in the service in December 2017.During his career, he has served as SP in several districts, including Tikamgarh, Mandsaur, Morena and Sagar.
