Vadodara: Bootleggers appear to be increasingly using the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to transport liquor, with the local crime branch (LCB) seizing yet another major consignment worth Rs 72 lakh.Acting on a tip-off that liquor was being transported in a truck along the expressway, LCB personnel kept a watch near Bhadarva village. They intercepted a truck approaching from Bharuch and recovered more than 16,000 liquor bottles packed in boxes. The truck driver, identified as Ashuram Bhadu, was arrested at the spot.During interrogation, Bhadu told police that the liquor had been brought from Haryana and was to be delivered in Ahmedabad. The latest seizure comes just five days after the detection of crime branch (DCB) seized another liquor consignment worth Rs 21 lakh from the same expressway. Acting on specific information, police had intercepted a truck near Fazalpur village and recovered hundreds of boxes containing liquor bottles. The driver, Darasingh Yadav, a resident of Valsad, was arrested. According to police, Yadav revealed that the liquor had been illegally sourced from Daman and that a man identified as Satish Yadav had handed over the consignment to him. He further claimed that truck owner Manish Yadav had instructed him to transport the stock to Bhavnagar. In another major crackdown a few months ago, police seized liquor worth more than Rs 34 lakh from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
