Bengaluru: The state govt has issued the final land acquisition notification for 1,895 acres in Kanchugaranahalli and Byramangala villages of Bidadi hobli in Ramanagara taluk for the proposed Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township.Greater Bengaluru Development Authority (GBDA) plans to develop the township under the work-live-play model. The Oct 30 notification identifies 3,271 landowners whose compensation will be determined under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The landowners can also opt for developed sites in lieu of monetary compensation.According to the notification, the project has been exempted from rehabilitation and resettlement benefits specified in Schedules I and II of the Act. A lump-sum amount in lieu of these benefits will be determined under the Karnataka Amendment Rules, 2020.The township project has faced opposition from farmers, who have been protesting at Byramangala Circle for over 18 months against the proposed acquisition.Farmers in the affected villages said they would continue opposing the land acquisition. Nagaraj MR, of the Byramangala and Kanchugaranahalli Farmers’ Land Rights Protection Association, said the final notification had been issued before the govt-appointed review committee submitted its report. “The committee members were supposed to assess the region’s agricultural landscape and the impact on farmers. They visited the villages but did not conduct a detailed survey. The report has not been submitted. We will continue our legal fight against the acquisition,” he said.Nagaraj alleged that farmers were being threatened with litigation and pressured to accept compensation and give up their land.“Some farmers have given up their land fearing a prolonged legal battle. They are also being targeted by turning previous owners of their land against them,” he added. The township proposal received cabinet approval in Jan 2025. GBDA issued a preliminary land acquisition notification in March 2025. In May 2026, the cabinet approved a revised proposal covering 7,481 acres across nine villages. The first final notification, issued in June 2026, covered 499 acres in Kempayyanapalya, Mandalahalli and Vaderahalli villages. A second notification on July 15 covered over 4,941 acres in four villages. With the latest notification, the total land covered by final notifications stands at over 7,335 acres.
