Kolkata: The state CEO’s office has convened an all-party meeting on Tuesday to discuss the special summary revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, scheduled to begin this month.Opposition parties have demanded that civic polls be deferred until Jan 16, when the final SSR roll is due to be published, arguing that newly enrolled voters must not be denied their voting rights.“Will those whose names are newly included on the Nov 23 draft roll be allowed to vote in KMC elections? They cannot be denied the right to vote. We want the civic polls to be held after the final SSR roll is published on Jan 16,” said Congress functionary Ashutosh Chatterjee.“The duration for filing claims and objections against the draft SSR rolls is from Nov 23 to Dec 22. How can civic elections be held while people might be filing objections against a draft roll?” asked an opposition neta.Polling stations will be rationalised by Nov 13. The SSR aims to enrol eligible voters as of Oct 1, 2026, and prospective electors turning 18 next year.
