Mumbai: Bombay High Court came down heavily on a litigant who tried to throw her purse at a judge after an order was passed against her and her three children.“Minder Gurmit Singh Thukral has behaved in a wholly inappropriate manner, which also amounts to contempt of court,” Justice Madhav Jamdar noted in Tuesday’s order.HC was hearing a contempt petition against the Thukrals. An eviction decree in a 2009 suit filed by the landlord against Thukral’s father-in-law was executed in April 2025. Thereafter the Thukrals re-entered the property. The landlord’s family moved HC.Justice Jamdar said, “prima facie, I am satisfied that the conduct of the respondents amounts to interference in the administration of justice.” He appointed the court receiver to take symbolic possession of the premises by Wednesday and remain present on Thursday for handover of possession to the petitioners. Further, if possession is not handed over, the court receiver shall take physical possession and immediately hand it over to the landlord. HC permitted taking police protection. It was then that Thukral started crying and shouting. She tried to throw her purse at the judge but stopped herself. She submitted a written apology. But Justice Jamdar questioned her conduct, saying, “just because an order is passed against you, doesn’t mean you will behave in such a manner.” He summoned the police, who removed Thukral from the courtroom. Justice Jamdar indicated imposing heavy costs and initiating contempt proceedings against her. He posted the hearing regarding “conduct of all the respondents and also conduct of” Thukral on Oct 30.
