Anant’s wife asked to vacate govt bungalow
Mokama MLA Anant Singh and his wife Neelam Devi

Patna: Mokama MLA Anant Singh faced another setback on Monday as the building construction department ordered his wife and former MLA Neelam Devi to vacate the govt bungalow at 1, Mall Road in Patna by Nov 25.The move came after the JD(U) expelled Anant for six years and the govt cancelled Neelam’s nomination to the state-level 20-point programme implementation committee with immediate effect. She enjoyed the status of a minister of state.A notification issued by the cabinet secretariat department cancelled Neelam’s nomination as a member of the committee. Following this, the process to vacate the govt accommodation was initiated. The action followed a political confrontation within the JD(U) over the Oct 23 Bihar legislative council elections, results of which will be declared on Tuesday. Anant campaigned against the party’s official candidate Neeraj Kumar in the Patna Graduates’ constituency and supported Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Kumar Singh.JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha met the assembly secretary on Monday and submitted a letter to the Speaker seeking termination of Anant’s assembly membership under the anti-defection provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution. The submission included around 10 pages of supporting material, including video footage, to substantiate the allegations of anti-party activities, according to party sources. Kushwaha said a notice was being prepared to pursue Anant’s disqualification.Meanwhile, the building construction department issued the vacation notice to Neelam following withdrawal of her official status and cancellation of the accommodation under the Patna Central Pool Rules, 1986.The bungalow has been associated with Anant for years. He occupied it during his tenure as Mokama MLA from 2005 to 2020. When Neelam became an MLA while Anant was in jail, the bungalow was allotted in her name.Although a separate flat was allotted to Anant after his re-election, he continued to reside at the Mall Road bungalow.
