Indore: Western Railway’s Ratlam Division has generated a whopping Rs 26.96 crore in revenue under Indian Railways’ ‘Zero Scrap Campaign’ by auctioning nearly 5,000 metric tonnes of scrap in the current financial year.Among the major items disposed of during the drive were two condemned WAG-5 electric locomotives, two condemned passenger coaches, a tower wagon and unserviceable equipment from Ratlam’s Locomotive Care Centre, alongside pathway scrap materials.Beyond the financial windfall, the aggressive clearing drive has successfully freed up vital operational space across railway yards and repair facilities.“The initiative, executed under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Ashwani Kumar and Senior Divisional Material Manager Amir Yadav, aims to systematically clear unserviceable materials, optimize spatial utilization within railway premises, and maximize revenue from condemned assets,” Ratlam Division PRO Mukesh Kumar said.“By clearing 5,000 metric tonnes of redundant inventory, the division freed up significant land and operational space across railway yards and repair facilities. The drive to identify and auction unserviceable materials will continue throughout the financial year to maintain clean, organized, and scrap-free railway premises across the Ratlam division,” Kumar told TOI.
